#InnovateToINSPIRE
India has significant ambitions for energy security and sustainability. By 2030, India aims to reduce its emissions target to 33-35% – amongst the highest across developing countries – and increase the share of non-fossil fuel-based electricity to 40%.

To reach these sustainability targets, newer technologies and approaches need to be implemented. As a nation, India has achieved significant strides both in renewable generation and adopting energy efficiency, with renewables constituting 8% of the total domestic grid, and the nation’s energy intensity declining by 58% between 2005-06 and 2015-16.

However, the effectiveness in both these arenas is inhibited by several specific challenges. Although a clean form of energy, renewables provide intermittent electricity access and therefore expose transmission grids to risks of collapse. Energy consumption in India is expected to increase by 165% by 2040, but adoption of energy efficient alternatives is limited to specific appliances and institutions with minimal support for risk-sharing by financial institutions.

The intervention potential for targeted innovations – technologies, processes and business models that can sustain clean energy supply and responsible consumption while balancing development ambitions – is not only significant, but a critical need as developing nations like India bear the brunt of the burden of climate change action.

Inviting THINKERS, DREAMERS, DO-ERS, INNOVATORS, INVENTORS, PIONEERS, TRAILBLAZERS, TRENDSETTERS, ENTREPRENEURS…

To spark this movement, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and The World Bank are proud to conduct the #InnovateToINSPIRE Challenge 2019.

About INSPIRE 2019:

As energy markets evolve and undergo disruption and new innovative tools that are emerging through the domain of Big Data, IoT and Blockchain become mainstream, there are phenomenal opportunities to ramp up the deployment of energy efficiency measures in a way that the world has not seen before. Against this backdrop, EESL and The World Bank, along with our supporting organisations – present the fourth “International Symposium to Promote Innovation & Research in Energy Efficiency 2019 (INSPIRE-2019)”.

Focused on the theme of Innovation, INSPIRE 2019 will be a unique platform for learning and collaboration to bring together key policy-makers, influencers, innovators, thought leaders, researchers, leading energy-efficiency companies, government agencies, business leaders and stakeholders from diverse sectors in India and abroad to discuss energy policies, market transformation strategies, and technology and business-model led transformations. The convening of these players during the event and post-session networking holds tremendous potential for new collaborations and public private partnerships.
